Happy Labour Day to every working stuff ! On this day, 1B18 has decided to gather to make popian !
It fitted the theme of labour somehow. Making popian requires a lot of laborious effort to shred and cut the turnips, carrots, french beans, leeks, beancurds, prawns and chicken meat etc ! With a bigger group like us, we were able to allocate tasks to each her best !
No strength to start the popian making session without filling our empty stomachs first ! Thanks to BC for her fabulous huat kuey ! I really enjoy her mini huat kueh alot with that heavenly-smell of gula melaka ! Please share this recipe with me .. yummy yum ! BC's sis has also baked a cake covered with yummy nuts for BC but she has generously share the cake with us !
Tiang has brought the dumpling skins, a bagful of marinated meat cum prawns to make dumplings soup! The dumplings were so beautifully folded into "Jin Yuan Bao"! We have fried some dumplings and they were really crispy.
Our 1B18 "frequent" must have dish .. Fang's sis marinated wings ! The 2 kg of wings were snapped up ! The New Moon Muar Otah spread on french loaf and fried seafood me were contributed by us.
After a great lunch, time to work hard for our popian ! My MIL has blended her spicy chilli and garlic for us which is a must for popian. Thanks to BC for buying all the ingredients ! We were touched as all the ingredients probably weighed a ton for her to carry !
Looked at those giant, XL sized turnips !!!!
At last, everyone was busy shredding the carrots, turnips or cutting other ingredients. It will be rather depressing if one has to do all the ingredients by themselves ! It was a lot of work just to eat a roll of popian. So if someone offers you a roll of home-made popian, you can be sure that it was made with love and effort !
The cutting of leeks, the shredding of turnips etc ... yes yes, even the holding of the wok's "ears" require teamwork !
Yes, even the guys helped to shred some carrots and turnips ! Good job guys ! CK has been quite an expert of shredding both carrots and turnip. He has been "trained" by his mum for many years.
Finally, after stir frying all the chopped up ingredients, they were ready to be eaten ! Hooray !
Little Col making her first popian !
